Die Severinsstraße
Die Severinstorburg war einst Teil der mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer, wo über Jahrhunderte hinweg jeder passieren musste, der Köln von Süden her betreten wollte – heute wird dort gern geheiratet. Dahinter reihen sich kleine Läden, Cafés und Restaurants aneinander. Zur Stärkung kann ich die Filiale der Kölner Kaffeerösterei Van Dyck empfehlen.
The Severinstorburg was once a part of the medieval city wall, which travelers had to pass through for centuries when entering Cologne from the south. Nowadays it’s a popular spot for weddings. Behind it you’ll find a row of little shops, cafés, and restaurants. I highly recommend the branch of the Cologne coffee roasters Van Dyck.

Skulpturenpark
Dies ist erstaunlicherweise immer noch ein Geheimtipp in Köln. Es ist sozusagen das Open-Air-Museum von Köln. Beim Spazierengehen lassen sich unterschiedliche zeitgenössische Skulpturen entdecken. Und das Ganze ist sogar kostenlos!
Astonishingly, this is still an undiscovered gem in Cologne. It’s a kind of open-air museum. There’s a variety of contemporary sculptures to discover when taking a stroll through the park. And, believe it or not, the whole thing is free!

Sixpack auf der Aachener
Im Belgischen Viertel reihen sich kleine (nachhaltige!) Shops, nette Cafés, beliebte Restaurants und angesagte Bars aneinander. Da ich in Köln studiert habe, habe ich beste Erinnerungen an die Bar Sixpack auf der Aachener Straße – vor allem zu späterer Stunde. Auch war im Belgischen Viertel unser erstes Büro, als wir als Studenten Armedangels gegründet haben.
In the Belgian district there’s a range of small (and sustainable!) shops, cute cafés, beloved restaurants, and popular bars all packed in together. As I used to study in Cologne, I have the best memories from the bar Sixpack on Aachener Straße—especially after-hours. Our first office was also in the Belgian district, when we founded Armedangels as students.

Restaurant Massimo in der Südstadt
In der Kölner Südstadt trifft Kölscher Charme auf Großstadtleben. Mein Tipp: der kleine, gemütliche Italiener Massimo. Besonders empfehlen kann ich die traditionellen Pastagerichte. Unbedingt vorher reservieren!
In the Südstadt district of Cologne, local charm meets big city life. My top recommendation is the small and cozy Italian restaurant, Massimo. I particularly recommend the traditional pasta dishes. Be sure to reserve!

Großmarkt in der Südstadt
Wer gerne kocht, ist am Kölner Großmarkt in Raderberg genau richtig. Von der Gaststätten-Empore über dem Eingangsbereich aus kann man das Gewusel dort wunderbar beobachten. Besonders empfehlen kann ich das Mare Atlantico mit besonderem Gemüse und Obstsorten, leckerem Käse und einer exzellenten Weinauswahl.
If you enjoy cooking, the Cologne Großmarkt in Raderberg is the place for you. There’s a brilliant view of all the hustle and bustle of the market from the mezzanine above the entrance area. I particularly recommend Mare Atlantico, which offers special vegetable and fruits, delicious cheese, and an excellent selection of wine.
