"Zu Covid-19, das uns im Weg steht, sage ich: Verschwinde von dieser Erde!", schreibt die 91-Jährige in ihrer Botschaft, die unter anderem im "Guardian" veröffentlicht wurde. Auch die japanische Künstlerin selbst hat mit den Konsequenzen der Pandemie zu kämpfen, ihre Ausstellungen für dieses Jahr im Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. und im New York Botanical Garden wurden abgesagt.
"Wir befinden uns gerade auf der dunklen Seite der Welt, aber wir müssen gegen dieses furchtbare Monster kämpfen", schreibt sie. Es sei Zeit, "eine Hymne der Liebe für unsere Seelen zu suchen". Zusammen könnten wir es schaffen. Kusama zeigt sich dankbar für alle, die schon kämpfen. "Die Zeit zu kämpfen ist gekommen, um unser Unglück zu überwinden."

Though it glistens just out of reach, I continue to pray for hope to shine through
