In the upcoming exhibition The Discovery of Form, Zander Galerie is pleased to present a dialogue between American photographer Robert Adams (*1937) and Josef Albers (1888-1976), two outstanding protagonists of post-1945 art. While Adams dedicated his photography to capturing the American West – from the vast prairies and the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean – Albers explored the effects of color relationships in his iconic series Homage to the Square, created between 1950 and 1976. What unites both artists is reflected in Adams’s own words: “Beauty is a synonym for the coherence and structure that underlie life.”
A catalogue accompanying the exhibition will be published by Steidl, edited by Heinz Liesbrock and Thomas Zander. The publication features 82 illustrations and texts by Heinz Liesbrock, John Szarkowski, and Colm Tóibín.
