REGINE SCHUMANN | Jumps in Time
For more than 30 years, Regine Schumann has dedicated herself as a visual artist to the themes of light, color and form using the special material of fluorescent acrylic glass. The current exhibition JUMPS IN TIME in the rooms of the Judith Andreae Gallery shows significant leaps in the artist's development, provides insight into thought processes, influences and changes and their direct or subtle implementation in her art.
Color-intensive, flowing bodies and sometimes room-spanning installations made of acrylic glass envelop the room, taking it over in color and lending its architecture a new temperature. Color and light, composition and intensity are central factors that characterize the artist's works. In the tradition of constructive-concrete art, Regine Schumann has developed her own geometric formal language, which is articulated in space and enters into a changing dialog with light and color.
The works in JUMPS IN TIME allow the eye to wander into another dimension, they create a connection between the purely physical of acrylic and the immaterial that arises through the encounter with light. Schumann's work is an ongoing and constant search for color, light and their expressive potential. From natural to artificial light to black light, the works interact with variations of light, creating ever new effects of color, shadow and surface.
This calm, open aesthetic in Regine Schumann's works, combined with perfect craftsmanship, creates a contrast to the chaos and turbulence of everyday life in its simple clarity. They encourage us to reflect on our own perception and to pause for a moment.
