'rough manners' is what painter Franziska Reinbothe (*1980 in Berlin, lives and works in Leipzig and Pretzsch/Elbe) calls her first solo presentation in the project space of Galerie Gisela Clement. Rough manners - a tongue-in-cheek commentary on Reinbothe's practice of dipping the canvas on her paintings after the painting process is complete, breaking the moldings or dispensing with them altogether. Yet, despite appearances, Reinbothe is not concerned with mere iconoclasm, for her 'transformations' are based on an elemental curiosity. What actually happens if...? is always Franziska Reinbothe's initial artistic question. By answering this question, she opens up and expands the familiar pictorial territory and humorously renegotiates the entity of the panel painting.
