TOM REICHSTEIN contemporary is pleased to invite you to the opening of NOTHING BUT, a solo exhibition by Swedish artist Ylva Carlgren. This exhibition marks her first collaboration with our gallery, and we are delighted to present both her latest works and a striking, wall-spanning, centrepiece.
The opening will take place on Thursday 19 September from 7pm to 9pm, with the artist in attendance, and the exhibition will run from 20 September to 9 November 2024.
Carlgren is widely recognised for her minimalist approach and contemplative exploration of painting. In her latest work, she continues to explore the concept of 'nothingness' using a technique of applying and removing layers of paint. These new works include visible brushstrokes, creating a dynamic interplay between presence and absence, form and formlessness.
A highlight of the exhibition is a monumental, wall-sized work that encapsulates the evolution of Carlgren's artistic practice and provides an immersive experience of her ongoing exploration of materiality and space.
Carlgren's work investigates painting as an object of its own presence, seeking to capture 'nothing but itself'. Her paintings evoke a sense of space and spatial perception. This is not achieved through traditional perspective, but rather through her keen understanding of the interplay between colour and form. Using innovative and refined techniques rarely applied to watercolour, she blends darkness and light in such a way that the surface of the paper is given an intense, luminous quality.
We look forward to welcoming you to the opening and sharing this mesmerising body of work with you.
