Olafur Eliasson baut interaktives Kunstwerk für Europa

Mit einem interaktiven Online-Kunstwerk will der in Berlin lebende dänisch-isländische Künstler Olafur Eliasson den künstlerischen Mittelpunkt der im Juli beginnenden deutschen EU-Ratspräsidentschaft gestalten

"Earth Speakr" soll vor allem Kinder und Jugendliche in Europa ansprechen und "Kunst in einem Raum schaffen, in dem jede Stimme gehört wird". Auf der digitalen Plattform können junge Menschen Sprachbotschaften hinterlassen. Darin sollen sie nach Angaben von Montag etwa "von ihren Hoffnungen und Ideen für die Zukunft Europas und die Erde erzählen".

Das sieben Millionen Euro teure Projekt ist Zentrum des insgesamt für zehn Millionen Euro realisierten Kulturprogramms zur EU-Ratspräsidentschaft im zweiten Halbjahr. Zum Start des Projekts soll eine App bereitstehen. Bundesaußenminister Heiko Maas (SPD) hatte Eliasson mit einer führenden Rolle im Kulturprogramm beauftragt.

When was the last time you listened to what a trash can had to say? What would you say if you were a tree? If you could give your voice to a plastic bag or piece of fruit, what would they say? What does it sound like when we become a voice for the planet? Olafur has created Earth Speakr @earthspeakr with the studio, kids, creative partners, researchers, and other experts. The open-ended artwork launches officially on 1 July and will evolve over the course of 2020 with the active participation of kids across the EU. Earth Speakr consists of a playful app and an interactive website (in all 24 official EU languages), as well as physical presentations in key locations. To amplify kids’ ideas and concerns about the wellbeing of our planet, Olafur and the team are working with a growing network across the EU, including museums, schools, and libraries to expand the reach of this collective artwork.
